ESG

Sustainability is built into how Scantox operates - from how we source energy and manage facilities to how we train, report, and collaborate. Our approach balances scientific rigor with ethical responsibility, offering measurable impact to the clients we serve.

A Sustainable CRO Partner

We apply the same discipline to sustainability as we do to science – structured thinking, traceable data, and continuous refinement. In 2024, we introduced AI-driven ESG tracking to improve transparency and streamline compliance, enabling broader sustainability efforts.

Biodiversity & Ecosystems

We reinforce biodiversity by converting farmland into flower fields, ensuring future expansions that further cultivate natural habitats. By focusing on reducing harmful substances, we shifted in 2024 from a category B to category C chemical waste, underscoring our dedication to sustainable practices.

In 2024, a 1-hectare test site was created with plans to expand to 7 hectares in 2025. This project is a low-intervention, high-impact approach, proving that small efforts can make a meaningful difference in biodiversity conservation.

EcoVadis Bronze Medal for Sustainability Excellence

In 2025, Scantox was awarded a Bronze Medal by EcoVadis, placing us in the top 35% of companies assessed worldwide. This recognition reflects our deliberate, long-term approach to environmental, social, and ethical responsibility—and reinforces our alignment with international ESG standards.

What Is EcoVadis—and Why Does It Matter?

EcoVadis is a widely adopted sustainability assessment system used across industries—including pharma and biotech—to evaluate how companies manage environmental, social, and ethical practices. It reviews organizations across four key themes:

  • Environment
  • Labor & Human Rights
  • Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement

Many of our clients reference EcoVadis ratings as part of their supplier qualification, ESG reporting, and risk management processes. The assessment provides a standardized, third-party view of a company’s sustainability practices and supporting documentation.

In 2024, EcoVadis raised the bar—tightening both scoring and medal thresholds. Scantox’s Bronze Medal places us in the top 35% of companies assessed globally under these more rigorous criteria. It reflects the maturity of our ESG systems and our alignment with international expectations for responsible business conduct.

This EcoVadis Bronze Medal is an acknowledgment of the systems we’ve built—and the direction we’re heading. Scantox will continue investing in ESG initiatives that matter to our clients: advancing our SBTi-aligned climate commitments, expanding emissions transparency, and delivering sustainability-conscious preclinical services that help accelerate therapeutic progress while strengthening the resilience and responsibility of the pharmaceutical supply chain.

EcoVadis is a commonly used platform for third-party evaluation of corporate sustainability practices. It assesses companies across four core areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

In pharma and biotech supply chains, where sponsors’ expectations around sustainability and ESG performance are becoming more clearly defined, platforms like EcoVadis are used to assess the maturity of their CRO partners’ sustainability practices in a consistent and comparable way.

Our Bronze Medal places Scantox Group in the top 35% of companies rated globally by EcoVadis. That recognition reflects more than compliance—it shows that we’ve built meaningful systems to manage and improve ESG performance across our business, aligned with global sustainability standards.

Sustainability is now a strategic procurement priority—not just for large pharma, but increasingly for biotechs and emerging sponsors. Scantox’s EcoVadis rating provides third-party assurance that we’re a values-aligned partner—supporting our customers’ ESG reporting, risk management, and responsible sourcing goals, while advancing their research programs with the scientific rigor and responsiveness needed to accelerate progress toward the clinic—together.

Yes. Scantox has formally committed to setting near-term emissions reduction and net-zero targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This reflects our alignment with global climate goals—and our belief that agile, mid-sized organizations like ours have a real opportunity to lead by acting decisively and transparently.

Scantox has transitioned to 100% renewable electricity across our operations and installed 1,628 solar panels at our headquarters. We also provide real-time CO₂ emissions data at the study level—enabling our clients to quantify Scope 3 emissions with clarity and accountability.

In 2025, our facilities in Denmark were awarded full AAALAC accreditation, reflecting the highest standards in ethical animal care. Our sites are designed with sustainability and welfare in mind—including outdoor enrichment areas, positive reinforcement programs, and biodiversity-conscious facility planning.

Scantox upholds labor and human rights standards across all operations, supported by company-wide policies, training programs, and digital SOPs. Our governance model prioritizes compliance, ethical conduct, and transparent documentation—reinforcing trust across our internal teams and client partnerships.

“This recognition affirms our belief that science and sustainability must go hand-in-hand. At Scantox, we’re proud to be a partner that delivers not only scientific excellence, but does so with transparency, accountability, and long-term impact in mind.”  - Jeanet Løgsted, CEO, Scantox Group

Governance

In 2024, Scantox is constituting a company-wide commitment to robust and global governance policies – introducing the global governance policies exceeds regulatory requirements and put Scantox ahead. Everyone at Scantox actively incorporates ESG into their work, making it a fundamental part of our collective responsibility. This proactive approach ensures ethical standards and contributes to our sustained success as a responsible industry leader.

Due to the substantial regulatory framework governing our industry, our operations are subject to rigorous oversight and compliance measures. As a result, Scantox has already established a robust digital Standard Operating Procedures system to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and maintain operational efficiency.
Furthermore, we are able to provide real-time data on study emissions as of 2024. This daily and real-time data empowers proactive sustainability measures, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility.

Also in animal welfare, we constantly strive to go beyond legal requirements, as we believe it is essential for our business and our core values, as well as ensuring higher quality of science and a better working environment for our staff. In both Denmark and Sweden, Scantox representatives have been appointed seats on the national boards approving all in vivo studies. This shows not only our company’s commitment to the highest animal welfare standards; it is also a general acknowledgement of Scantox being recognized as leading experts in the field.

Internships and trainee positions account for 6% of our workforce. This steady investment in early-career talent helps create a strong pipeline for the future workforce within Scantox.

CO2 Footprint

In line with our unwavering commitment to ethical business practices and corporate responsibility, Scantox have established a transparent calculation of CO2 foot print on our individual services as well as internal policy and procedure.
