In Vitro Services

Scantox provides comprehensive in vitro research services to study various neurodegenerative and rare diseases including Alzheimer’s diseaseParkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Gaucher disease and many more. Analysis of various aspects of neuronal or glial function, viability and morphology using live-cell imaging tools as well as protein or mRNA expression analysis in numerous sample types are our daily business.

The range of available models comprises:

  • Genetic or lesion-induced cell culture models for different indications using transgenic and non-transgenic cell lines allowing for multiple applications and analyses.
  • Primary rat and mouse microglia and astrocytes and central nervous system neurons of different developmental stages, derived of embryos and earl postnatal pups from wild type or a variety of in-house bred transgenic rodent models.
  • Microglia isolated from adult mouse brains using Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (MACS) and adult bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM)
  • Organotypic brain slices of specific brain parts, including but not limited to hippocampus and cerebellum, offering a physiologically representative system to study neurodegenerative processes.
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and iPSC-derived differentiated cell types, providing a versatile platform for disease modeling and drug screening.

Drug Screening with Specialized Animal Models and Cell Lines

Primary cells and brain slices can be derived from animal models specific to certain diseases that are available at Scantox, providing the ideal complementary tool for in vitro and in vivo screening of drugs.

Commonly used neuroblastoma and neuroglioma cell lines as well as immortalized glial cells are on stock to perform assays with minimal lead time. Scantox is equipped to perform BSL2 research. Treatment of different cell types with viral vectors, siRNA or any other gene therapy approach is therefore feasible.

Our team has many years of experience in the cultivation and treatment of CNS cells, performs a broad range of readouts, and follows standardized protocols for various methods on a regular basis. Moreover, new models and strategies can be developed and validated upon request to support your research goals. We are flexible to customize the experimental setup of off-the-shelf assays to fit your research project and are constantly developing new technologies to provide state-of-the-art research.

Customer Feedback

"I am grateful for all the exceptional work you did for me. More important than the results, which were good, it's the way you work and the efforts you all did to help me to accomplish my goals."
