Service information
The hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase (HPRT) assay is one of the mammalian cell gene mutation assays available at Scantox. An alternative to the mouse lymphoma assay, the HPRT assay detects gene mutations such as base pair mutations, frameshift mutations and small deletions and insertions. The HPRT assay can be used as a follow up test to positive Ames data (OECD TG 471) or positive large colony data in the MLA (OECD TG 490) assay. The HPRT assay can also be used to assess mutagenicity when the Ames test may not be appropriate, for example, when testing antibiotics.
