There are two Scantox sites in Sweden with each of their different capabilities: Gothenburg and Lund. Together, we are about 40 employees in Sweden – scroll down to see examples of some of our typical job functions at our Swedish sites.

As a highly international organization our business language is English, however as Swedish is the daily spoken language at our Swedish sites, it is for most positions a great benefit to master both languages.

Scantox Lund was integrated into the Scantox Group in 2022. Previously the company was known as Timeline Bioresearch. We are located at the Medicon Village facility in Lund.

The main focus in Lund is on exploratory and efficacy studies in diverse animal models with a strong focus on wound healing, oncology, immunology and neurology. The site is home to our Discovery division.

We are a small team of about 15+ employees and comprises of animal caretakers, in vivo technicians, scientific project managers and veterinarians.

At our site in Mölndal (outside Gothenburg) we focus on analytical chemistry. We have two units – Bioanalysis and Product analysis. In Bioanalysis we work according to GLP & GCP with tissue samples from our animal facilities or with samples from clinical studies. The Product analysis focuses on release testing of finished pharmaceuticals according to GMP as well as testing chemical/physical aspects of medical device products and other sample types in early phases of development.

The site was originally formed established as Q&Q Labs AB and joined Scantox in 2023, we are 20 people in the operation.

Depending on the job you have applied for, your first interview would typically be with a representative from HR and the person that would become your direct manager. Examples of typical job functions at Scantox Sweden

Get an insight into some of the many job functions at Scantox in Sweden and learn more about what it means to work in some of our different job areas.

As an animal caretaker you must be in good physical shape. The animal caretakers are responsible for the care, feeding and cleaning of the animal houses and laboratories. The work is centered around live animals, so naturally there is a very high focus on animal welfare, care for quality and responsibility. 

Animal caretakers at Scantox are typically trained animal caretakers and they work in the Technical Operations team.

In vivo technicians perform dosing of animals in the various studies, as well as collecting and handling samples and data from the animals. caretakers are responsible for the care, feeding and cleaning of the animal houses and laboratories. They work closely with the scientific project managers/study directors to ensure that all study procedures are conducted in accordance with the study protocol. The work is centered around live animals, so naturally there is a very high focus on animal welfare, care for quality and responsibility.

In vivo technicians at Scantox are typically trained animal technicians, veterinary nurses or laboratory technicians and they work in the Technical Operations team.

The Scantox laboratory animal veterinarians perform hands-on veterinary work and they are in contact with many professional groups within the company. Typical tasks include clinical observations, assessment, examination and treatment of laboratory animals, as well as operations. Veterinarians advise veterinary collaborators internally, e.g. our animal caretakers, laboratory technicians, pharmacists or biologists and for surgical operations it is the veterinarian who sets the participating team. Animal welfare is a high priority in Scantox and is continuously assessed by the veterinarians. Test methods and models are continuously developed and validated. Veterinarians at Scantox Sweden have a DVM degree and a valid Swedish veterinary license.

Scientific project managers/study directors at Scantox are responsible for the various preclinical studies, and they are in direct contact with the clients (typically from the pharmaceutical industry) who commissioned the study. The study directors advise clients on choice of study design. They prepare study protocols for the study based on client wishes and requirements. Internally, they collaborate with many professional groups, including in vivo technicians or bioanalysis/histology teams at other Scantox sites, on the operational implementation of the study and generation of all data. This requires an immense overview both internally and externally. When the study has been completed, data is processed and a final report including results and conclusion is prepared.

To become a study director, you must have a background as M.Sc. with a scientific background e.g. biologist, pharmacist or veterinarian and come with experience in preclinical studies.

At Scantox Gothenburg there are different types of roles (such as laboratory technicans  & analytical chemists) depending on the persons academic training and level of responsibility for our processes.

In the Bioanalysis laboratories the team is responsible for developing and validating bioanalysis methods for the studies. Working mainly with blood plasma sample extraction and LC-MS/MS in accordance with the quality frameworks of GLP or GCP.

In the Product Analysis laboratories we work with pharmaceutical products and medical devices to elucidate parameters such as contents, stability, impurities etc. The instrumentation is much wider here than in bioanalysis and consists of around 15 different types of measurement techniques. As we perform release testing of finished pharmaceuticals according to GMP we are a proud part of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
